Netanyahu: We are conducting checks in Syria to search for the remains of Eli Cohen

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed in an interview with Israeli TV that searches for the remains of Israeli agent Eli Cohen in Syria are already taking place.

And Israeli television considered Netanyahu's statements the first of its kind, which was revealed by conducting such operations to search for the remains of the spy in Syria.

The Israeli channel i24 quoted a source in Netanyahu's office that Russia played a mediating role in order for Tel Aviv to play this role, while the source added that Syria and Russia are in dispute over the price that Israel will pay for each additional information related to the Israeli spy.

The source pointed out that the remains of Eli Cohen, who was tried and executed in 1965 in Syria on charges of espionage, was placed in a cemetery in the Yarmouk Palestinian refugee camp south of Damascus.

It is noteworthy that Eli Cohen started his secret activities in Syria in 1961 under the name of "Kamel Amin Thabet", where he managed to consolidate strong relations with important Syrian figures in the army, police and the Syrian government

He used this to transfer intelligence information to Israel regarding the deployment of the Syrian army in the Golan Heights, and he was a candidate for the post of Deputy Minister of Defense of Syria.
